Urban and Rural Landscape Characterisation
Dyfed Archaeological Trust has unrivalled expertise in landscape analysis,
survey and historic
landscape characterisation , and our knowledge of the historic landscapes
and towns of south and west Wales is without parallel. Landscape surveys
undertaken by the Trust range from the characterisation of large tracts
of land to the detailed analysis of the evolution and development of smaller
areas. Techniques involve the examination of aerial photographs, old maps
and documents as well as studying all aspects of the physical landscape
itself. Recent trends have also begun to focus on the detailed characterisation
of urban townscapes, and Dyfed Archaeological Trust is at the forefront
in developing this field in partnership with Cadw and other agencies.
Working with the Countryside Council for Wales, the Trust
has also been involved in the production of innovative LANDMAP data, a
national landscape information system to inform sustainable decision making.
